Introduction
The Public Policy on Natural Gas Storage establishes the obligation to create a minimum of 5 days of strategic natural gas inventory (45 trillion cubic feet) by 2026. Want to know more about this policy ? Learn more. The underground storage of natural gas has historically been critical in assuring that overall demands and use of specific requirements of natural gas customers are met. The Energy Policy Act of 2005 added a new § 4 (f) to the Natural Gas Act, stating that the Commission may authorize natural gas. WASHINGTON – Surging demand for energy has created an urgent need for more natural gas storage, according to a new report from the American Gas Association. The report, titled Assessing the Value of Natural Gas Storage: A Strategic Asset for Grid Reliability, System Resilience and Operational. Totals may not equal sum of components because of independent rounding. Working gas in storage was 3,185 Bcf as of Friday, January 9, 2026, according to EIA estimates. This represents a net decrease of 71 Bcf from the previous week. Stocks were 33 Bcf higher than last year at this time and 106 Bcf. The IEA has discontinued providing data in the Beyond 2020 format (IVT files and through WDS). Data is now available through the .Stat Data Explorer, which also allows users to export data in Excel and CSV formats. A problem with this policy? Tell us and we will take a look. The Public Policy on. New research shows that surging demand for energy has created an urgent need for more natural gas storage.
